PHD Course breakdown in Midwifery

PHD in Midwifery and Women’s Health
Admission Criteria

  • Academic criteria
  • Applicants to the postgraduate midwifery training at the doctoral level should have a Midwifery background and a health-related master's degree through a thesis-based program.
  • Candidates who pass the preliminary screening can be invited for an entrance examination.

N.B: A group of senior researchers, as well as Ph.D. student representatives, are on a regular basis managing admission applications.

Non-academic requirements

  • The age limit of the candidate must be < 45 years old
  • Appropriate work experience requirements after obtaining the MSc degree must be at least two years

Applicants should also fulfill the following documents to the registrar during the application:

  • Letter of recommendation (3 letters of recommendation) from people that supervised you in academic, employment, and community service. At least one should be from a university professor familiar with your academic work.
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Motivation letter
  • Research concept note
  • An official letter for sponsorship
  • Official transcripts from all previously attended institutions of higher learning
  • Secured funding source (if any)

Selection procedure

  • Applicants will be selected based on the following criteria
  • Research concept note (40%)
  • Cumulative postgraduate grade point average (25%)
  • Publication(s) (30%)
  • Candidate with secured fund sources (5%)
  • Candidates who have 3-6 years of work experience (3%), 7-10 years’ work experience (6%) and 11 and above (10%).
  • Top scoring applicants will be selected based on the annual intake capacity of the department
