The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Gondar is one of the world’s only Scholarships that caters to people with disabilities and disadvantages. Its reach has grown over the past 6 years and is steadily gaining recognition for cultivating transformative leaders in the Horn of Africa.
On May 8, 2022, a day-long event that focused on the new direction of the program was held. Scholars Program management and staff, stakeholders, and Scholars all came together to share ideas and thoughts on how to make the next 4 years more prosperous and effective. In addition to this, a new expectations document was revealed and shared with the Scholars. The document illustrated in detail what is expected of the Scholars during their time at the University of Gondar.
The Co-Director of the Program Dr. Molalign Belay opened the event with a PowerPoint presentation that highlighted the Foundation’s core values, UoG’s code of conduct, and reinforcing the Foundation’s policies. Geta Asrade, Part A Manager, on his part presented performances and achievements and focused on the feedback of the Scholars, and set rules on the best way forward.
The Scholars expressed their delight in the care and attention that they have been receiving and shared that they are willing to work together with the office to create a more inclusive environment.
In the near future, the Scholars Program at the University of Gondar will be accepting its new batch of freshmen Scholars.
Moreover, the graduate Scholars’ application is currently open and the office encourages all talented people with disabilities and disadvantages to apply and receive a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to gain an all-expense paid-for and wrap-around scholarship!
